How to Get Started with eCommerce
Having to start your own online store can be a bit overwhelming, but with Web.com eCommerce plan, you can simplify the process and get your business up and running quickly. This comprehensive guide on how to get started with eCommerce walks you through every step, from your first login to publishing your site.

After Purchase Experience
Once the product is available in your Web.com account, you can start assigning a domain to your purchased eCommerce plan. Please see Manage Domain Connections: Everything You Need to Know for instructions on how to assign a domain to your eCommerce plan. If you haven't registered a domain name with us yet, you may go to How to Buy a Domain Name.
Please Note:
- If you purchased your domain and SSL as part of the eCommerce plan, they will be automatically linked to the same plan.
- If you have an uninstalled SSL in your account, we will auto-install an SSL certificate once a domain is pointed to your eCommerce plan.
- If the SSL certificate fails to auto-install when you point your domain to an eCommerce plan, you have to unassign the domain and then reassign it to auto-install your unused SSL.
- On the Website Overview page, you will know if your SSL is On, Off, or in the process of being installed. Here’s what the SSL Certificate is on view looks like:
First Time Logging In
The first time you access your new eCommerce package, you will be taken to the Website Builder, where you will get Website Onboarding to complete the site onboarding. Once you complete onboarding, you will be taken to the editor to customize your website further.
If you are a returning user, you can follow the steps below to access your eCommerce Dashboard page.
- Log in to your Account Manager via https://www.web.com/my-account/login.
- Select Websites on the left navigation menu.
- If you only have one eCommerce product, you will be taken directly to the eCommerce product.
- If you have more than one eCommerce product, you will see the product list page where you can choose the product you want to manage. Click the LAUNCH button to access the eCommerce dashboard.
- In your Website Dashboard, you can start building your website. Follow the instructions outlined in the Website Onboarding section of this article.
Please Note: If at any point you want to stop and exit the onboarding process, you can go back anytime to the section where you left off.
Website Onboarding
Creating a website can increase your business’s visibility and reach. Follow the steps below to create your website.
- Log in to your Account Manager via https://www.web.com/my-account/login.
- Select Websites on the left navigation menu.
- If you only have one eCommerce product, you will be taken directly to the eCommerce product.
- If you have more than one eCommerce product, you will see the product list page where you can choose the product you want to manage. Click the LAUNCH button to access the eCommerce dashboard.
- You will now start the website onboarding process. You can generate a website using our AI Builder tool or use the templates available:

Editing the Text Generated with Web AI
Follow the steps below to start editing the texts in the website template using Web AI.
- In the Site Editor, click on a block in the template and highlight the text that you want to edit.
- Once the editing menu shows, click on the AI Writer.
- In the Post Topic field of the AI Writer menu, enter a keyword that suits your website to start generating a sentence. For example, the word "movie" is entered in the field.
- Once done, click on the Write My Idea button.
- After a few seconds, the AI will generate the text, and it will automatically change.

Adding a Product
Once the Website Onboarding is completed, you can begin adding products to your store. To start adding products, you may follow the instructions in How to Add a Product to Your eCommerce Site.
